The Palm Springs International Film Festival
Returns January 3-14, 2008
Palm
Springs, CA (August 27, 2007)) - The Palm Springs International
Film Festival (PSIFF), scheduled from January 3-14, 2008, will
include more than 200 films from approximately 60 countries. The
Festival also presents a majority of the films submitted for consideration
in the Best Foreign Language category for the Academy Awards,
as well as a large number of American independent and international
features and documentaries.
Opening
Night will take place on Thursday, January 3, 2008. The Festival's
annual Awards Gala, held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Palm
Springs Convention Center, honors individuals in the entertainment
industry with several prestigious awards for acting, directing,
achievement in film scoring and life achievement. Hosted by Entertainment
Tonight's Mary Hart, last year's Festival honored the casts of
Babel and Little Miss Sunshine, Sydney Pollack, Cate Blanchett,
Kate Winslet, Jessica Biel. Adam Beach, Todd Field and others.
Closing Night will take place on Sunday, January 13, 2008 and
the Best of the Festival will screen all day on Monday, January
14, 2008.
Founded
in 1990 by then Mayor Sonny Bono, the PSIFF is one of the largest
film festivals in North America. The Festival has an attractive
film sales and distribution record and is seen by American distributors
as one of the best Academy Award campaign marketing tools. The
Festival also features cultural events, filmmaker tributes, industry
seminars and an annual black-tie gala award presentation.
